Easy and affordable travel by rail to great destinations in Massachusetts this summer!

In a partnership between Keolis and the MBTA, Commuter Rail is offering a $10 summer weekend fare. That means, unlimited train travel between all zones, all weekend long, from now until September 2. Yes, you read that right. You can explore Boston and beyond via train for just $10 all weekend! The ticket is available from the first scheduled Saturday trip through the last scheduled Sunday trip. Kids 11 and under always ride free and bikes are welcome.
You can find travel ideas and custom maps for each line at mbta.com/massbytrain. If you don’t want to search by a specific line, we have created a beach map, hiking map, breweries map, and we can’t forget our newest map — ice cream spots! These maps show destinations and how close they are to Commuter Rail stations.
Some of our favorite places to take the train to are:

  • Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-sea. Manchester Station on the Newburyport/Rockport line is a short walk to the beach.  You can easily get onto the beach for just a $7 walk on fee!
  • The Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston. You can take the train into either North or South Station and it’s a short walk to the Greenway.  Once you arrive, you’ll find a lot of food trucks, vendors, beer gardens, and more.
  • Hiking spots like the Middlesex Fells hiking near the Melrose Cedar Park station on the Haverhill line. It’s less than a mile from the station and since bikes are welcome on the train during the weekend, it makes for a quick connection if you choose to do that!

Let us know where you’re headed using #massbytrain so we can follow along.
Commuter Rail has 14 lines that travel to over 175 cities and towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and is mostly used for commuting into Boston for work. With the new weekend fare, this really is more than just transportation for commuters – we’re an everyday rail. Please check MBTA T-Alerts before traveling. The $10 fare is available for purchase on the mTicket app, onboard from the conductor, and at ticket windows at North, South, and Back Bay Stations. This fare is not eligible for CapeFLYER or Foxboro special event trains and is only valid on Commuter Rail.
